Parting Notes

The day you exchange your vows is the most memorable day of your life (well that’s what most couples claim it to be). The venue you choose will be embedded in your memory for eternity, so make sure you make the right choice. Instead of choosing the most popular option out there, why not decide to go off the beaten track? Explore the gem of Tasmania and get lost in the antiquity of its capital. Being the second oldest city in Australia, Hobart is the home of many extraordinary tales…add your wedding to its storybook.

Nobody made history by copying others.

Make your own choice. Leave a mark.

More on Weddings in Hobart

As the capital city of Tasmania, Hobart is the most populated area of the island; accordingly, the area has a lot of cultural and natural sites to offer for your wedding ceremony, reception, and photography. The city sits on the banks of the Derwent River and therefore offers many beautiful beaches and bays that are great for outdoor wedding ceremonies as well as bridal photography. The beautiful Royal Tasmanian Botanic Garden is also a great choice for your wedding photos, as is the historic Hadley’s Orient Hotel. Don’t miss out on this beautiful city on Australia’s island state, with its gorgeous Georgian and Victorian architecture and natural harbourfront / port. Plus, the stately Mount Wellington also serves as a great backdrop for your festivities and photos!

Popular Hobart Wedding Venues & Prices

Most Hobart wedding venues are in the form of conference / function centres, hotels, and inns, but you can also find heaps of gorgeous wineries, restaurants, marinas, and private estates / villas that host weddings. There’s a little something for everyone and every couple in Hobart!

Accordingly, the prices and venue fees for the popular Hobart wedding venues also vary, but packages can be very affordable, with some starting at $80 per head, or $5,000 for venue hire. Please keep in mind that venue fees may or may not include catering, service, gratuities, taxes, wedding consultations, décor, and so on—so make sure you ask for a full write-up of everything included (and not included) in your wedding package!

Travel & Hotel Accommodations

Flying into Hobart from the main continent is very simple, as your guests may fly into Hobart International Airport, which is only a 20 minute drive away from central Hobart. International guests may wish to fly into any International Australian airport (such as Melbourne Airport) and then connect to a flight to Hobart International. A direct flight from Melbourne takes approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes.

Hotels in Hobart can range from $40 to up to $400. Generally, the closer the hotel is to the harbour, the more expensive the nightly accommodations. You can also suggest Airbnb options to your guests, as there are many great options in the area, with the most popular homes costing between $27 to $250 a night.

Weather and Climate Considerations

The climate in Hobart, Tasmania is quite temperate year-round, with the warmest months in the summers (November to February). Even the cooler, winter months (June to August) don’t experience much cold weather, and the coolest registered temperatures are about 5oC. Although most couples prefer spring and summer weddings, fall and winter weddings can be equally lovely, especially if you are hosting an indoor wedding reception.

There is an equal amount of rain throughout the year in Hobart, but the months of July to November experience the most precipitation. We always suggest making sure your reception has a back-up space in case of inclement weather, no matter the weather forecast—whether they offer a marquee or tent, or an indoor hall. Keep in mind that the winter months also have fewer hours of sunlight!
