More on Mornington Peninsula Weddings

The Morning Peninsula, Victoria, is located just one hour south of Melbourne by car, making it quite easy for your out-of-state and international guests to reach your wedding celebrations and venues. The peninsula is bordered by the beautiful Port Phillip Bay on the West and the Western Port Bay on the East (with French Island right across the bay). Since the area is surrounded by water, there are of course many waterfront and beach wedding venues to be found in this region.

The area is also known for its gorgeous Mornington Peninsula National Park, the military ruins on Point Nepean, and the marine national parks, which all make for gorgeous wedding and bridal photography locations. The area is ideal for outdoor wedding venues and celebrations, with beach weddings being especially lovely.

Popular Mornington Peninsula Wedding Venues & Prices

Most of the Mornington Peninsula wedding venues will be a waterfront or beach type of venue, but there are of course others to be found, including lovely estates, gardens, farms, hotels, and restaurants. The peninsula is also well known for its beautiful wineries. These vineyards are ideal for those couples looking for a touch of the rustic and the gorgeous Australian country in their wedding festivities.

Some of our favourite venues, which can be found on our list above, include the Epicurean Red Hill, the Portsea Hotel, and the Hotel Sorrento.

Weddings in the Mornington Peninsula vary in price, with receptions as low as $80 per head. However, some of the more luxurious venues will cost up to $50,000 (including venue hire, catering, wedding planning and co-ordination, etc.). Of course, you should also always remember to factor in other fees and costs such as taxes and gratuities when budgeting for your wedding venue.

Travel & Hotel Accommodations

There are some smaller airports within and near the Mornington Peninsula area, but they are quite small and local, so we suggest inviting your out-of-state and international guests to fly into Melbourne and drive south to the Mornington Peninsula area, as it only takes an hour.

There are many great hotels to choose from for your wedding guests and for yourself in the Morning Peninsula, ranging from $70 to upwards of $500 per night, but averaging about $120 per night. We love the Royal Hotel Mornington and the RACV Cape Shanck Resort. Don’t forget to ask for a preferential rate when booking your hotel blocks for your wedding guests!

Weather and Climate Considerations

The Mornington Peninsula Shire, Victoria, and surrounding areas have the warmest days in the months of December to March, which is when we suggest booking your wedding reception and ceremony venues, especially if you intend on having an outdoor wedding event. However, event the winter months in the Mornington Peninsula are quite warm, with a low of only 6oC on the coldest day of the year.

Also, these months experience little precipitation, with an average of approximately 4 – 5 days of rainfall compared to the wetter, winter months of the year in May to September. Still, in the drier months, you shouldn’t risk the rain—don’t forget to ask your wedding ceremony and reception venues whether they have any backup, indoor locations for inclement weather.
