More on Weddings in Wollongong

Known for its beautiful ocean views and diverse wildlife, the Wollongong region is home to many stunning wedding ceremony and reception venues. Affectionately nicknamed “The Gong,” this region is bordered by the Pacific and the Illawarra Escarpment. There are gorgeous mountains (Mount Kembla, Keira, Murray, and Broker’s Nose) with wedding venues that offer jaw-dropping panoramic views, and coastal / surf beach wedding spaces, as well as everything else in between, so there’s a wedding venue that will suit every wedding couple’s tastes here! Don’t forget to check out the Wollongong Botanic Garden and Lake Illawarra, both fantastic wedding photography locations, for your bridal and couple portraits!

Popular Wollongong Wedding Venues & Prices

Wedding venue costs in the Wollongong region average about $14,000, which is just a little higher than the national average ($13,000). However, there is less variation in wedding venue costs than in other regions, and most venues will typically cost between $7,000 to $18,000 for their all-inclusive packages (always read the fine print and make sure you know what is included in these packages).

Most of the popular wedding venues in the Wollongong region are waterfront and mountain venues, such as hotels and function centres. Some of our favourite venues include the Sage Hotel (packages starting from $84 per head), Altitude 1148 (from $79 per head), and the Grange. Other popular wedding venue types in the region are golf clubs, beaches, gardens, and rustic spaces.

Travel & Hotel Accommodations

The Illawarra Airport in Wollongong is great for those guests who are arriving from within the region, but you can also catch a connecting flight with Fly Corporate from the Melbourne (1 hour 40 minutes) and Brisbane (2 hours 10 minutes) international airports, making it handy for any out-of-state or international wedding guests. On average, it takes about 20 – 30 minutes to drive from the Illawarra Regional Airport to Wollongong. There are also public transport options, but we recommend renting a car.

Wollongong hotels can be a little pricy, ranging from approximately $80 to over $500 (depending upon the quality of the hotel of course!). However, there are also more affordable and equally lovely Airbnb homes and rooms available in the area as well, with the most popular rooms starting as low as $30 per night!

Weather and Climate Considerations

The Wollongong region of New South Wales is another beautiful Australian region that offers warm weather year-round. It doesn’t get too warm, with a high of 26oC on average, usually in January and February. The winters are also quite temperate (but can be a bit windy), with a low of 8oC in July. We suggest planning your wedding for the winter months, but the spring and fall are also quite lovely. Summer should be avoided as it experiences the most rainfall and thunderstorms. Don’t forget: no matter which month or season you decide to have your wedding, remember to ask for or find a back-up location for any outdoor wedding festivities in case of inclement weather!
