10 Questions with David Rothwell

1. Introduction: What's your story?

Hello. I'm Dave Rothwell.

Born in England, I've been living in Perth for over 20 years. I've achieved things in the wedding industry that I never expected. I have been lucky enough to be winner of the annual Western Australia ABIA awards five years in a row and was voted among the Top 5 ABIA National Wedding Videographers in 2023 and 2024.

2. How long have you been filming weddings? How many weddings have you filmed?

I've been lucky enough to have been filming weddings full-time for the last 6 years. In that time I have filmed over 200 weddings across WA, including Perth, Geraldton and the South West.

3. How would you describe your videography style?

My approach to wedding videography is to be seen as simply another wedding guest.

Blending in with your family and friends is key to capturing natural moments.

Using minimal equipment allows me to focus on the story of your day rather than intruding on it.

Your films will always look beautiful through the use of natural light and creative composition.

4. How well in advance should couples book their wedding videographer?

I take a select number of bookings per year. This keeps the quality of my work as high as possible and ensures that each wedding is given the attention to detail that it deserves. Please get in touch as early as possible to avoid disappointment.

5. What are the different packages that you offer and which one is your most popular package?

I offer an "Essential" service which for 95% of couples is everything they require. When you book me I'm yours for the day.

As a general rule I am there 2 -3 hours before your ceremony and 1 -2 hours after your first dance. I'm not a clock watcher so I won't leave until the job is done and will not charge for any extra hours if for any reason your wedding runs slightly later than expected.

To maintain my award-winning quality I only take a select number of bookings each year. I do not send you a contractor with minimal experience. In fact, I do not use contractors at all. I believe that when you book me you should expect me to arrive on your wedding day.

6. Are you the wedding videographer who will be filming on the wedding day? How many camera people and cameras will be operating on the day?

I am the sole wedding videographer. My approach to wedding videography is to be seen as simply another wedding guest. Blending in with your family and friends is key to capturing natural moments.

Using minimal equipment allows me to focus on the story of your day rather than intruding on it. Your films will always look beautiful through the use of natural light and creative composition.

7. Do you charge a travel fee? For what distance? What does that cover?

If your wedding takes place in Perth or the South West then there are no extra travels costs.

8. How do you back-up your footage to ensure no footage is lost and for how long do you keep the footage after the wedding?

All footage is copied to dual SD cards on the day. After the wedding the footage is backed up a further two times to ensure that nothing is lost.
Once your films are delivered, copies are kept for two years.

9. How long after the wedding will the couple receive the video? And how will the video be delivered?

Video packages are delivered within six weeks. All films are delivered digitally via a secure link. This can be shared with your family and friends so that everyone can watch or download the films immediately upon delivery.

10. What is your cancellation and/or refund policy?

All terms and conditions are outlined in the booking process. In the unlikely event that I cannot shoot your wedding all payments are refunded.
