1. Introduction: What's your story?
A long long time ago, I left Brazil with 2 suitcases full of bad clothes and a broken heart. I arrived in Australia, learned English, found a job as a Graphic Designer, made friends, found out that a broken heart can be mended by true love and realised that the best was still ahead of me.
A few years ago, I heard about this 'Marriage Celebrant' thing and found my calling - to tell stories of love for cool couples in their best day. At first, I only did it in my native language but soon I got kinda good at it, learned how to pronounce the word 'solemnise' properly and expanded my scope.
Nowadays, I am a full-time Celebrant and I couldn't be happier. I live with my wife Thalita and my 2 Miniature Schnauzers Chutney & Tikka and I enjoy playing games, Dungeons & Dragons, watching movies, going to the gym (sometimes) and, obviously, tell stories of cool couples in love. Life is good.
2. What's your experience as a marriage celebrant? How many weddings have you done?
Currently I am sitting on 342 weddings, not counting some commitment ceremonies and other types of celebrations. I learn a little bit more after every wedding and I know that the measure of my ceremonies is the smile on my couples' faces.
3. How far in advance do couples need to secure your services?
It depends so much of the season, if they want it on a Saturday or on a weekday, if there is travel involved... If a couple wants a Saturday in one of the peak wedding months (Feb 'til May, Sep 'til November), I would say 6 to 12 months ahead would be the safer window. But I always strive to accommodate their needs and, if I can help, I will.
4. How would you describe your ceremony style?
Fun.
I believe the ceremony is the start of the party and, if you're not having fun at your party, we're doing it wrong.
I don't know what classifies as 'fun' for each couple, but I know that I want them to have a ear-to-ear smile from the minute they arrive at the aisle to the very last second of their reception.
5. What are your fees for a wedding?
Prices can be tricky. The thing is my pricing isn't set in stone. I believe every couple is different, every story is different so every wedding should be different too. Without knowing about their wedding plans, goals and dreams, it's hard for me to put a price on my part, so I always try to chat with the couples first to see if we're the right fit and so I can gauge how I can help and how much work will be involved. I'm not the most expensive one so, for me, it's always about how much they value their ceremony and the connection we have during the whole process.
6. What do you wear when you officiate a wedding?
Usually clothes, but there are exceptions 😛
Again, it depends on each couple. It's not about me, so I try to blend, follow the colour scheme without looking like I'm part of the Wedding Party. I worn regular suits, shorts, a Darth Vader attire, an approved Federation of Planets uniform, a flamingo suit, dressed as a medieval priest, leather jackets, you name it. But, unless told otherwise, I will always be wearing nice colourful Converse Chuck Taylors (hopefully with a matching tie).
7. How many pre-wedding sessions will the couple need to have with you?
As many as we feel like having. I always like to sit with my couples at least once for a meal so we can just chat and get to actually know each other better, but if they feel we need more, they get it. The important thing is, for me, that the couple feels comfortable during the whole process. You can't have fun if you're feeling stressed so I try to be there for them as much (or, sometimes, as little) as they need me.
8. Will you be able to create a personalised ceremony?
That's the ONLY way to go with me. Every story is different, every couple is different, so it wouldn't make sense to me to have a cookie-cutter ceremony and just replace their names. I strive to tell the couple's story in a way they never heard before - even it's by accent alone 😛
9. Are you available to travel if needed?
Indeed I am. I am based in Perth WA, but I have done weddings in Victoria, South Australia and beyond. I have done Commitment Ceremonies in New Zealand and I am booked for a wedding in Brazil in July 2025. As long as I can get back on time for my next wedding, I am always happy to go wherever my couples need me.
10. What is your cancellation and/or refund policy?
We're all subject to life's changes and I always try to accommodate my couples' needs to the best of my abilities.
Should a couple decide to cancel their booking with me before 60 days of their wedding date, the Booking fee originally paid may be returned if their original date is to be rebooked.
