1. Introduction: What's your story?
Hi, I'm Dwayne Nichols and I own Marriage Celebrant Melbourne. I've been a celebrant since 2018, working across Melbourne and internationally now, too.
I love weddings because of the promise and promises. They are a time of potential and realised dreams. It's a tremendous privilege to be asked to help two change their lives which they do with the power of making promises to each other. They enter as individuals and leave as a family, it's a wonderful thing to be a part of.
Your wedding is an event that deserves to be celebrated and shared with the people who are the most significant in your life.
My job is to help make the biggest part of your wedding easy for you.
I will arrange the ceremony and also take care of the legal paperwork to enable you to focus on what is important: being in the moment, and thinking about your happily ever after with your family and friends.
I’ll be more than pleased to work with you to create a special, memorable, relaxed and fun wedding ceremony.
2. What's your experience as a marriage celebrant? How many weddings have you done?
I've officiated over 400 weddings, in all manner of styles and scales. From grand affairs at wineries, in the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel in Mumbai, in suburban backyards, in churches and temples assistng clergy with legalities, in emergencies where people are looking to fullfl dying wishes, young couples who can't wait to start their adult journey, and with more mature couples who finally got around to what they had been putting off for years. There's a time and place for everyone couple.
Living in Victoria I have had the opportunity to marry people from over 70 different nationalities: many different traditions and backgrounds, all wanting the same outcome. To live and love together.
3. How far in advance do couples need to secure your services?
Ideally, at least 6 months. That said, people's needs change. I like to offer a high degree of flexibility depending on circumstances. At least one clear month's notice, is the minimum as required by law, and if needs be I'm always happy to discuss a solution.
4. How would you describe your ceremony style?
A wedding is a serious legal process, it should be shown respect and deferrence - but it's also a time of celebration that fully deserves to reflect joy, so that is an essential element I include. I try to strike the right balance: to let people know that they've had a legitimate process, with plenty of laughs between them and their family and friends. A great ceremony should set the tone for the rest of the day, it shouldn't be a service people fear having to endure, it should be the first stage of the day's entertainment.
5. What are your fees for a wedding?
A personalised ceremony for my couples is $895.
Travel in excess of 100km from Melbourne will incur an additional charge.
Accommodation, permits, additional expenses to be discussed and agreed.
If you require a simple, minimal, legals only style wedding, please get in touch.
6. What do you wear when you officiate a wedding?
I will always try compliment your chosen theme - let me know your colours and I'll wear a suit, tie and pocket square to match.
Have I worn monk cassock, Jedi knight robes, Japanese happi, and a glittery disco jacket for weddings on request? Yes, of course!
7. How many pre-wedding sessions will the couple need to have with you?
Give me a call. When you are ready to get started we'll have a chat about what is needed and the initial process. We'll check in again to chat about process and then to discuss final details on how everything comes together and will work on the day. But I am always available for a call, by email and happy to meet in person where convenient.
8. Will you be able to create a personalised ceremony?
Writing a personalised story is the key to my services. Who are you and why are you doing this: answer this and we're well underway to creating a special day. Everyone has a different path they've taken to get them where they are on their wedding day. It's great to share insights with your family and friends on things they didn't know about you, or maybe a new and different spin on things they thought they knew!
As mentioned previously I have worked with many different nationalities and faith backgrounds. It's a joy to incorporate traditions new and old into ceremonies that recognise heritage and community.
Don't have someone else's ceremony. I work with you to make sure that your ceremony is a reflection of your beliefs and values. If you don't want 6 white horses, don't have 6 white horses. Real satisfaction for me come from knowing that i have delvered for my clients that ceremony that they envisioned.
9. Are you available to travel if needed?
Have microphone, will travel. Tell me where and when, and we can work out logisitics.
10. What is your cancellation and/or refund policy?
I understand plans change and life happens. Communciation is key, so please advise me immediately in writing and by phone of any change to the time, date or place of the marriage ceremony.
Notice of cancellation of ceremony must be given to the Celebrant in writing, and the Celebrant reserves the right to retain the booking fee, and other amounts paid if within the final month before the ceremony (as the date cannot be resold).
