10 Questions with Lucy Roberts

1. Introduction: What's your story?

Hi there! My name is Lucy Roberts, and I’m a Gold Coast-based Authorised Marriage Celebrant with a lifelong passion for creating memorable and meaningful celebrations.

My journey and love affair with weddings and events started in the UK, where I worked my first wedding at 15 in a hotel. Since then it's been over 25 years of experience in wedding planning, coordinating, and MC-ing—both in the UK and here in Australia—I’ve had the privilege of being part of hundreds of celebrations.

Since moving to Australia in 2010, I’ve embraced the sunny QLD lifestyle, worked at some incredible venues and eventually decided to follow my heart into celebrancy.

Becoming a celebrant allowed me to combine my experience with my love for storytelling, assisting and connecting with people.

Every ceremony I create is personal and unique, tailored to reflect each couple’s story and what matters most to them. I genuinely love getting to know my couples—especially over a good cuppa or glass of wine—and helping them bring their vision to life.

Outside of weddings, I’m a proud wife and mum to two amazing IVF children, and my family is my world.

Weddings give me a real buzz, from the “I do’s” to the electric atmosphere of the day, and I feel honored to help couples celebrate their love in such a meaningful way.

2. What's your experience as a marriage celebrant? How many weddings have you done?

Since becoming an Authorised Celebrant, I’ve had the honor of officiating over 100 marriage ceremonies in just my first two years—quite an achievement for a part-time role while also being a full-time mum!

During this time, I’ve been proud to receive the Wedding Industry Awards’ #1 Celebrant for the Gold Coast and Scenic Rim for both 2023 and 2024, as voted by my wonderful couples.

I’ve also been recognized as a Winner in the Wedding Diaries Editors’ Choice for 2023 and 2024 and am a 5-star supplier with Easy Weddings for 2022, 2023, and 2024.

With over 25 years in the hospitality industry—working across the UK and the Gold Coast—I’ve gained extensive experience planning, coordinating, and MCing hundreds of weddings and events.

This background gives me the skills and insight to make every ceremony seamless and unforgettable!

3. How far in advance do couples need to secure your services?

It's never too early to lock me in, once a date is booked its booked! I normally only take one wedding booking per day.

Most couples book me 6-12months before their special day.

To marry legally in Australia a Notice of Intended to Marry must be signed, witnessed and lodged with an Authorised Marriage Celebrant for a minimum of one calendar month and is valid for 18 months.

4. How would you describe your ceremony style?

I’d describe my ceremony style as warm, genuine, and heartfelt. I aim to create an atmosphere where everyone feels at ease, stress-free, and truly comfortable.

Your ceremony should reflect you—your personalities, your story, and what feels right for you.

Whether that’s serious and heartfelt, short and sweet, or relaxed and lighthearted, I’ll tailor it to suit your vision.

If you're after a swearing stand-up comedian or an all-singing, all-dancing performer, that’s not my everyday style - but hey, life is for living, so let’s chat and see what we can create together!

5. What are your fees for a wedding?

I offer something for everyone or happy to discuss bespoke options too.

6. What do you wear when you officiate a wedding?

I’m always happy to chat about the dress code with you!

Want me in a costume? Let’s make it happen!
Prefer sparkles? I’m all in!
Feeling shorts and thongs? Totally fine by me!
Match or not match with the I do crew - you just tell me!

Otherwise, I tend to go for something neutral and stylish. Or in line with your colour scheme or theme.

And don’t worry, I won’t show up in all white or all black—unless, of course, that’s exactly what you’d like!

7. How many pre-wedding sessions will the couple need to have with you?

This is entirely up to the couple and their chosen package, however at least one in needed.

I love establishing a genuine connection with my couples, this is best achieved in a relaxed and unhurried manner, knowing I am here to help and support where and whenever required!

Initially a phone call or a brief meeting is best to ensure we are a t great match!

If and when you're ready to proceed, we'll schedule an interview meeting to begin your paperwork and the ceremony planning, this usually takes about 1.5 hours and can be done either in person or via video call.

Following this meeting, the choice is yours. We can continue our communication through phone, email, virtual meetings, or in person.

Before your special day, a final meeting (at least a phone call) will be arranged or this can be in the form of a rehearsal.

Once you confirm me as your Celebrant I really am here to help in any way I can, phone, email, DM's or in person.

8. Will you be able to create a personalised ceremony?

100% I can create a personalised ceremony.

In fact, I pride myself on creating truly personalised ceremonies for every couple I work with. Each ceremony is tailored to reflect your unique story, style, and preferences—of course, except for the legal wording, as that part can’t be changed!

It’s both my passion and joy to craft a ceremony that feels just right for you. After getting to know you, I’ll guide, design, and create something that perfectly suits your vision. I encourage and empower my couples to include only the elements that hold meaning for them—not what tradition or outside opinions might suggest.

My motto is simple: it’s your day, your way!

9. Are you available to travel if needed?

Yes, Yes and Yes! Absolutely! I love a good adventure and exploring new places.

My usual regions include the Gold Coast, Scenic Rim, Mount Tamborine, Northern NSW (Tweed Coast to Byron Bay), and Brisbane. That said, I’m always open to traveling further afield or even interstate across Australia.

Travel within one hour each way from my home in Pacific Pines, QLD, to your chosen venue is included in my packages. For travel beyond that, additional charges apply per 15-minute block and will be added to your invoice.

If other travel arrangements or accommodation are needed, these will be discussed and quoted individually, typically covered by the couple.

10. What is your cancellation and/or refund policy?

In the event of the ceremony's cancellation, the non-refundable deposit will be forfeited, and the balance of the fees will be considered, at Lucy's discretion.

In the event of a change of date, a fee of $50.00 may apply and is subject to Lucy's availability.

Refund Policy:
1. The deposit is non-refundable.
2. Part fees may be refunded if fourteen (14) days’ notice of cancellation has been given.
3. All fees are non-refundable if cancellations is within seven (7) days of the event.
