10 Questions with Krissy Taylor

1. Introduction: What's your story?

Hi, My name is Krissy Taylor. I am a Marriage Celebrant in the Newcastle/Hunter area. I have always wanted to make a difference in the community. I have been drawn to the beauty of human connections. Whether it was through friendships, family gatherings, or community events, witnessing the joy that love brings to people inspired me deeply. As I have grown older, I realized that I wanted to be part of the moments that celebrate those connections—particularly the devotion and commitment that come with marriage. I have been a marriage celebrant since 2023 and I have done 8 weddings so far with 7 booked for next year. I am so excited.

The role of a Marriage Celebrant is more than just officiating a ceremony; it is about cultivating an atmosphere where love thrives. My mission is to help couples embark on their journey together by creating personalized and memorable ceremonies that reflect their unique love stories.

Planning a wedding can often lead to feelings of overwhelm and anxiety. The logistics, the details, and the expectations can become burdensome, diverting attention from the joy of the occasion. My goal as a celebrant is to alleviate that stress and make the journey to "I do" as smooth as possible.

For me, being a celebrant is not just about officiating a wedding; it’s about helping couples celebrate their individual love stories and creating a cherished memory that will last a lifetime. Each ceremony is a piece of art, crafted with attention, care, and heartfelt intention.

2. What's your experience as a marriage celebrant? How many weddings have you done?

So far I have done 7 weddings and I have literally loved every second of it. From the meeting of the couples, some with children(really sweet), listening to their stories of how they met, looking at how excited they are, getting to build a relationship with them, to writing their love story, to giving them suggestions of different wedding ceremony traditions, to helping with vows. its surreal to know that I will be a part of their special day. It's one of the best feelings I have ever had. Being an inspiration and seeing their love on their wedding day and doing my job to the best of my ability is truly an amazing experience.

3. How far in advance do couples need to secure your services?

I would need about 2 months advance please.

4. How would you describe your ceremony style?

My ceremony style is the couples ceremony style. I meet with each couple, where ever and when it's a convenient time for them. I introduce myself,we sit and chat and I get a sense of what their specific needs and wants are. I write notes, ask questions, fill out the Notice of Intent to Marry with them and go from there. I'm a very talkative, friendly person and I believe in communication through out their whole journey up till their wedding day.

5. What are your fees for a wedding?

A legal fees only wedding, I would do for 350.00, this includes the lodgement of your Marriage Certificate, which at the moment is 68 dollars.
If I have to travel, it's 600.00, that includes lodgement of your marriage certificate.

If its near or in Newcastle, with PA system, microphone, table, chairs etc, its 550.00 including lodgment of your marriage certificate

6. What do you wear when you officiate a wedding?

I always ask the couple the colours they will wear as well as their bridesmaids so I dont clash with them. I love wearing dresses so it's dresses always unless they request a costume theme etc

7. How many pre-wedding sessions will the couple need to have with you?

We will always meet first to do the Notice of Intent To Marry and get to know each other then the unless they want to meet sooner I will meet them at the rehearsal which I think is a great idea and we will also fill out the Declaration of No Legal Impediment to Marry. Normally 2 times. I also call the day before the wedding to see how they are doing, if I can help them in any way, ie calm their nerves, remind them to breathe. :)

8. Will you be able to create a personalised ceremony?

Absolutely. I will create their love story in the ceremony. Every story is different and writing it for me is very exciting.

Im doing a sand ceremony in a few months with a couple and their children, which by the way is not extra in my fees. I cant wait.

I will do a candle unity ceremony, planting a tree or some flower seeds, hand fasting, I will make all these suggestions and pretty much open to anything.

9. Are you available to travel if needed?

The longest I would drive is a couple hours. I would take a flight but it would cost extra for the couple but I am open to it.

10. What is your cancellation and/or refund policy?

I require a 100 dollar deposit, if they cancel, it's non refundable. If I am sick just before the wedding, I would ask another celebrant to take my place and return their deposit to them.
