Hi, I'm Sumitra, founder and lead makeup artist at Sumitra Makeup Artistry. My passion for makeup began over a decade ago when I first discovered the transformative power of beauty. With over 10 years of experience in the wedding industry, I've had the privilege of being part of numerous special days, enhancing the natural beauty of brides, bridesmaids, and mothers. To date, I've worked on over 300 of weddings, perfecting my craft and tailoring my services to meet the unique needs and visions of each couple.

4. Do you have a team of assistants or will you be the only artist that day? What will happen if you're sick or have an emergency on the wedding day?
On the wedding day, I understand the importance of seamless execution and attention to detail. To ensure a stress-free experience, I'd like to introduce you to my team:
Lead Artist: As the founder and lead makeup artist of Sumitra Joshi Hair and Makeup Artist, I will personally oversee and execute your wedding day makeup services. With years of experience and a keen eye for detail, I'll work closely with you to bring your vision to life.
Assisting Artists: Depending on the size of your bridal party, I may bring in additional assisting artists to help with makeup applications. These artists are carefully selected, highly skilled, and trained to work efficiently while maintaining the highest standards of quality.
Emergency Preparedness: While we strive for perfection, unforeseen circumstances can arise. In cases of emergency, I have a comprehensive backup plan in place:
- A network of trusted, experienced artists who can step in on short notice
- A fully stocked emergency kit with essentials to address any last-minute needs
- Clear communication channels to keep you informed and reassured throughout the process

5. Do you charge a travel fee? For what distance? What does that cover?
At Sumitra Joshi Hair and Makeup Artist, I'm passionate about sharing my expertise with couples near and far. I'm more than happy to travel for weddings, whether it's a short drive to a nearby town or a flight to a breathtaking destination.
Travel Services:
- Local Weddings: I serve the entire Canberra and surrounding area
- Regional Weddings: I'm willing to travel for weddings within australia
- Destination Weddings: I'd love to join you on your special day, no matter the location. I'm available for destination weddings worldwide.
Travel Fees:
- For weddings within hours of my location, I charge a flat fee
- For weddings requiring air travel, I charge a flat fee of to cover flights and accommodations.
- For weddings requiring extended travel, I'll provide a customized quote based on the specific location and requirements.
Accommodations:
- For destination weddings, I require accommodations for the night before the wedding to ensure I'm well-rested and ready to provide exceptional services.
- I'm happy to book my own accommodations or have them arranged by the couple or wedding planner.

6. Can the bride book a wedding makeup trial appointment and will you also do a trial before the wedding?
I highly recommend booking a wedding Hair and Makeup trial appointment. This allows us to:
- Discuss your vision and preferences
- Experiment with different looks and techniques
- Ensure a perfect match for your skin tone and style
- Make any necessary adjustments before the wedding day
Trial Details:
- The trial typically lasts 2-3 hours
- We'll work together to create a customized look for your wedding day
- You'll receive personalized feedback and guidance on how to prepare your skin and hair for the wedding
- The trial is usually scheduled 4-6 weeks prior to the wedding date
By doing a trial before the wedding, we can ensure that you feel confident and beautiful on your special day.
7. What beauty products do you use and would you be open to the bride using her own make-up?
I use high-quality, professional makeup products from renowned brands, including:
- Foundation and skin care: NARS, MAC, Laura Mercier Tarte and Bobbi Brown
- Eyes: Make up by Mario, Charlotte Tilbury,
- Lips: Forever New, MAC, and Charlotte Tilbury,
Using Your Own Makeup:
While I have my own kit of professional products, I'm happy to incorporate your personal favorites into your wedding day look. If you have a specific product or brand you love and want to use, please let me know and I'll do my best to accommodate your request.
However, please note that I may need to assess the product's suitability for photography and longevity throughout the wedding day.
8. How can you make the bride's wedding makeup last and look good in photos?
To ensure your wedding makeup looks stunning and lasts throughout the celebration, I use:
1. High-quality, long-lasting products that withstand tears, hugs, and dancing.
2. Specialized techniques, setting sprays, to extend wear.
3. Careful consideration of lighting, skin type, and personal preferences when selecting products and designing your look.
For Photography:
1. I choose products with a matte or subtle sheen finish to minimize shine and reflections.
2. I enhance your natural features to create a radiant, camera-ready complexion.
3. I consider the style and tone of your wedding photos when designing your makeup look.
Touch-ups:
To keep your makeup looking fresh throughout the day, I'll provide:
1. A complimentary touch-up kit with essentials for quick refreshes.
2. Scheduled touch-ups during the wedding day, as needed.
By combining expert techniques, high-quality products, and careful planning, I'll help you look and feel stunning in your wedding photos and throughout the celebration.
9. How long will makeup take on the day and how long will you be staying for on the day?
To ensure a relaxed and enjoyable experience, I recommend allocating:
- 2-3 hours for bridal party makeup (bride, bridesmaids, and mothers)
- Additional time for touch-ups and adjustments throughout the day
My Stay on the Wedding Day:
I'll be with you throughout the getting-ready process and will stay to ensure everything is perfect before the ceremony. Typically, I'll stay for:
- Bridal preparation and photos: until the bride is ready to leave for the ceremony (usually 1-2 hours)
- Touch-ups and adjustments: throughout the day, as needed

10. What is your cancellation and/or refund policy?
By booking with Sumitra Joshi you agree to the following terms and conditions.
DEPOSITS
A Deposit for any service by Sumitra Joshi Hair and Makeup Artist is Minimum 50% non-refundable and is required when any booking is made. Until the deposit is received, the date is still available for someone else to book. Once the deposit is paid, you are required to notify Sumitra with a screenshot and email along with your contract , Once Sumitra confirms your date and time is locked in it cannot be changed unless Sumitra Joshi Hair and Makeup Artist agrees to do so. Please ensure to let Sumitra know once the deposit has been paid, and If this has been more than a week since the details were provided, email to confirm the date is still available.
SERVICES RENDERED
When bookings are made and deposits are paid you are agreeing on booking for a certain amount of clients. Once this process has been made the full amount for ALL clients under that booking are due a week prior to the appointment regardless of if services will be rendered or not. For example: You book in for 5 people for your wedding. 2 months out one person cancels, The full amount for all 5 clients is due even if only 4 people are receiving the makeup. You may have someone else fill this appointment on the same day and time but the full amount is required to be paid regardless.
PAYMENTS OPTIONS
Sumitra Joshi Hair And Makeup Artist accepts Direct Deposit only.. All prices are in Australian Dollars. Receipts can be sent to your desired billing address once processed or desired email address.
• The full fee or remainder of your full fee must be paid at least one week prior to your appointment.
• Bank transfer on the day is not accepted.
• Please ensure you have the correct amount of cash or have arranged to pay in advance or your appointment will not go ahead.
• Eftpos is not currently available.
EVENTS AND BRIDAL BOOKINGS
• Your booking is not secure until we have responded to your request and have confirmed your appointment.
• To secure your booking on a particular date you may be required to pay a non-refundable appointment retainer fee.
• This fee goes towards your final fee on the day and is a retainer to ensure that your date is kept free for you.
• Your booking is not confirmed until this fee has been paid if requested.
• Occasionally the makeup artist will not request the retainer fee until someone else requests that date, but you will be informed.
•Your date will be held without the fee if approved by the makeup artist.
• The remaining fee must be paid up in full week before the date.
• Bank transfer on the day is not acceptable.
• You can pay the full fee up front if you wish
• You will receive message or an email containing a link to the terms and conditions and payment options.
• A bridal preview does not guarantee your wedding date is held. The artist will hold the date until the trial and then the appointment retainer fee must be paid to retain your wedding date.
BEHAVIOUR
The makeup artist may cancel an appointment at any time if they feel unsafe or if a client is behaving inappropriately. Your retainer fee or full payment will not be refunded.
BRIDAL PREVIEWS
• A bridal preview is your chance to see if you work well together.
• A bridal preview may result in your having two different eye makeup looks so is not advised to do before and event or photoshoot.
• The makeup artist may refuse any wedding booking based on your behaviour at the preview and whether or not they are able to satisfy your requirements.
• In the rare even that the artist feels you are not a good fit, alternative artists will be suggested.
SATISFACTION
The artist will consult with the client during the process to achieve a satisfactory look.
Please be aware that if you bring in a photograph of a look you are hoping to achieve, the artist may not be able to replicate it. Using the exact same products, the look will appear different as everyone has different eye shapes, skin types, skin tones, face shapes etc. If you wish to bring in a photo, please keep this in mind. This applies especially to photos of other artists work.
At the conclusion of your makeup appointment, we strongly urge you to let us know if you have any requested changes or concerns, so we can ensure you are happy and feeling as good as possible. The artist will seek your feedback and make changes accordingly.
LATENESS, CANCELLATIONS & RESCHEDULING
NO-SHOWS ( NON-REFUNDABLE DEPOSITS )
This means Sumitra Joshi Hair and Makeup Artist is not able to refund your deposits once it is paid and your booking is locked in as they assume you are 100% happy with the trial/service. This also means they cannot change your booking. Sumitra understands that things are out of our control and require changing, this is up to Sumitra’s discretion on wether new fees will be required. If you do not show up to your appointment you will be invoiced for the full fee.
CANCELLATIONS
+ If you need to cancel keep in mind that the artist has said no to other paid work in order to retain your booking +
Sumitra Joshi Hair and Makeup Artist requires a MINIMUM of 6 months notice to cancel your booking. If canceling without this amount of notice the FULL amount of your agreed upon booking is still due. If canceling with more than 6 months notice there will be no extra fee, although the deposit will remain non refundable. For bookings made with less than 6 months until the date the deposit remains non refundable with the remaining amount due on canceling. This is the same for rescheduling, although rescheduling with any amount of notice will still require a new deposit.
RE-SCHEDULING
+ If you need to cancel keep in mind that the artist has said no to other paid work in order to retain your booking .
• Re-scheduling is treated as a cancellation. The retainer fee will not be refunded
• As a freelancer we rely upon your reliability as you do ours. The artist will try to reschedule with you however cannot guarantee availability.
• Re-scheduling will be dependent on the date and time, and whether the artist has an appointment available for you.
• If there is no appropriate time to re-schedule the appointment retainer fee will not be refunded.
LATENESS
• If you are running late please let the makeup artist know as soon as possible by phoning or texting 0424814063
• The artist will arrive 10 minutes early to set up the work station.
• While we are understanding, often the makeup artist is booked back to back and lateness means they will arrive late to their next appointments which include pack up, driving time and set up.
• If you are late and the makeup artist is required to stay after the allocated time for the appointment you will be invoiced $40 per half hour.
• There is also the chance that the makeup artist will not be able to perform your makeup service if you are running late and the makeup artist has more appointments after you.
• Your retainer will not be refunded and the full fee will be invoiced.
• Your appointment cannot be extended due to lateness.
TRAVEL FEE
Sumitra Joshi Hair and Makeup Artist travels for Weddings of 6+ clients within Canberra free of charge, but if appointments are booked for occasions out of Canberra a travel fee will apply. Please email Sumitra with the start time of the event, the amount of people and the exact address for a travel quote. All other appointments occur at Sumitra’s studio.
AT YOUR APPOINTMENTS
Appointments run for a maximum of an hour, some may be shorter. If you arrive more than 15 minutes late your appointment is automatically cancelled with the full amount non refundable. On the completion of your appointment Sumitra Joshi Hair and Makeup Artist assumes you are happy with services rendered. Once you leave your appointment it is up to you to ensure to follow the instructions given to you by Sumitra at your appointment to ensure the lasting of the makeup. It is the client’s responsibility once leaving the studio to upkeep the makeup and Sumitra Joshi Hair and Makeup Artist takes no responsibility once a client has left. Clients have an obligation to alert Sumitra to any sensitivities, allergies or possible reactions prior to booking, Sumitra takes no responsibility for any reactions to products used and clients book so under their own risk.
BOOKING OF TRIALS
If you are booking a trial without booking in your wedding date you run the risk of the wedding date being booked by a different customer before your trial. Booking in a trial does not hold the wedding date for you and that date is still able to be booked by other customers. If this happens and your trial is less than 1 month away the full amount is still due regardless of if your wedding date is available or not. If your trial is more than 1 month away the deposit will remain non refundable although you will not be required to pay the remaining amount.
PRICE LIST
Sumitra Joshi Hair and Makeup Artist may update their price list without notice to you. However if you already have a booking, these prices will not affect you, including weddings that have been pre-booked and deposits paid with the previous price list.
DEFINIAON OF FORCE MAJEURE
In this Clause [ ], "Event of Force Majeure" means an event beyond the control of the Authority and the Operator, which prevents a Party from complying with any of its obligations under this Contract, including but not limited to:1.1.1 act of God (such as, but not limited to, fires, explosions, earthquakes, drought, tidal waves and floods); 1.1.2 war, hostilities(whether war be declared or not), invasion, act of foreign enemies, mobilisation, requisition, or embargo;1.1.3 rebellion, revolution, insurrection, or military or usurped power, or civil war;1.1.4 contamination by radio-activity from any nuclear fuel, or from any nuclear waste from the combustion of nuclear fuel, radio-active toxic explosive, or other hazardous properties of any explosive nuclear assembly or nuclear component of suchassembly;1.1.5 riot, commotion, strikes, go slows, lock outs or disorder, unless solely restricted to employees of the Supplier or of his Subcontractors; 1.1.6 acts or threats of terrorism. Consequences of Force Majeure Event1.2.1 Neither the Authority nor the Operator shall be considered in breach of this Contract to the extent that performance of their respective obligations (excluding payment obligations) is prevented by an Event of Force Majeure that arises after the Effective Date. The non refundable deposit will remain non refundable – although it is up to Sumitra Joshi Hair and Makeup Artist discretion wether the outstanding amount will be due.
CANCELING / POSTPONING DUE TO COVID OR PANDEMICS
1. If a wedding is directly impacted by Covid due to state lockdowns, restrictions disallowing weddings, or a wedding cannot go ahead as reasonably normal ( such as only bride, groom & officiant or numbers under 15) you are allowed 1 reschedule to a new date and can use your deposit for this. You must ensure to choose a date that Sumitra Joshi Hair and Makeup Artist is available. Choosing a date that Sumitra is unavailable you forfeit your deposit.
*1.1 If canceling due to Covid without restrictions, closures etc. (due to worrying about the current conditions but weddings can go ahead as normal or guests coming from lockdown states) with under 4 months notice the remaining amount is still due as per the terms and conditions in above regarding canceling of weddings. If postponing with more than 4 months notice* the deposit will be carried over to the new date and no remaining due. You will be subject to price changes.
2. If you have already used your 1 postponement and need to postpone again the full amount for the original booking is due on the date of email notifying of the postponement and a new contract and booking will be drawn up for the new date.* some guests not being able to come due to lockdown is not a direct impact from Covid and would be subject to
1.1* This is purely due to Covid and no other reason for postponing, if postponing due to other reasons you are subject to normal terms and conditions.
MAKEUP ARTIST CANCELLATIONS
As a freelancer sometimes unavoidable events occur like illness or injury that mean the makeup artist cannot perform your service. In this case the makeup artist will let you know as soon as possible. The makeup artist will attempt to find a replacement for your appointment but cannot guarantee this. Your retainer fee will be refunded.
ILLNESS AND CONTRAINDICATIONS
For the safety of the makeup artist, client and all other clients, the makeup artist may refuse to provide a makeup service if you are sick or have any of the following:
• Bacteria, fungal, parasitic or viral infections (includes cold sores, conjunctivitis)
• Recent treatments – injectables, IPL, laser or surgery
• Known medical conditions or any allergies which may affect treatment.
These conditions must be disclosed to the makeup artist so appropriate action to avoid infection can be taken and a risk assessment can be performed.
In the event that illness prohibits your makeup service to be performed at the time of the appointment, the retainer fee will not be refunded.
COMMERCIAL BOOKINGS
• Your booking request is considered a verbal or written agreement.
• The makeup artist has turned down other work for your booking.
• You will be invoiced upon completion of the booking.
• Payment must be received within 14 days.
• Cancellations within 24 hours notice will incur the full fee and you will be invoiced. Payment must be received within 14 days.
LESSON
• All bookings are subject to availability, bookings must be made well in advance.
• Sumitra is booked out on particular dates up to a year in advance.
• No exchanges for cash available.
• All bookings are limited on Weekends and available between 9:30am -2pm Mon to Friday where available.
• The usual cancellation and no-show policies apply to vouchers.
• Vouchers are for makeup lessons only.
LIABILITY
All products, brushes and tools used by Sumitra Joshi are used and stored in line with the Infection Control Guidelines including sanitisation after every application.
Products are used in accordance with the manufacturers’ guidelines. Clients will be asked whether or not they have any allergies or skin conditions. It is the responsibility of the client to inform the makeup artist of any conditions prior to the service. Allergies may occur in people that have had no prior reactions and the makeup artist is not liable for this.
A patch test can be performed to test products if requested by the client prior to the appointment. Client(s) or Agent(s) of client(s) agree to release the makeup artist, Sumitra Joshi from liability for any complications due to allergic reactions. In the unlikely case that an allergy occurs, the client(s) must seek medical advice.
