More on Weddings in Gippsland

Gippsland, Victoria, is located right next to the city of Melbourne (south east of Melbourne), with the furthest parts of the region no more than a four hour drive away from the big city.

The region has so many lovely attractions to offer that a wedding party and couples can take advantage of for the wedding festivities – ceremonies, receptions, and wedding photography locations!

The Great Alpine Road winds through the region, all the way down to the famed Gippsland Lakes, and there are many beautiful parks and tiny towns throughout the region as well.

Inverloch and the Baw Baw region are quite popular for weddings, for their beautiful coastal and mountain views, respectively. The area has much to offer, and is ideal for all types of weddings, from beach to vineyards to luxurious hotels.

Popular Gippsland Wedding Venues & Prices

Wedding venues in the Gippsland region can cost anywhere from approximately $3,000 to over $30,000 (although this price may or may not include fees for catering, decorations, a wedding coordinator, and more).

However, most wedding venues will cost between $12,000 – $15,000, which is a little cheaper than the national average (and cheaper than a Melbourne wedding).

Many of the wedding venues you will find in the Gippsland region will be waterfront weddings (whether it is on the shores of the Gippsland Lakes or the ocean) or winery / rustic weddings, but there are also hotel, restaurant, and garden weddings available.

Travel & Hotel Accommodations

There are several airports in the Gippsland region, including the Bairnsdale Aiport, Newhaven Airport, and Yarram Airport.

However, it may be cheaper for your guests to fly into the Melbourne airport and catch a connecting flight or drive to your wedding venue from there.

At most, it will take 3 and a half hours to drive to a wedding venue in Gippsland from Melbourne (this is the time it would take to drive to Bairnsdale, one of the western- and northern-most points of the Gippsland region.

There are many hotels throughout the Gippsland region, ranging from $40 – $200 per night. Typically, Bairnsdale has the most expensive hotels, and the Morwell to Traralgon East areas have cheaper accommodations available.

Of course, most of the larger cities and towns will also have Airbnb options for your guests to avail themselves of for your wedding festivities.

Weather and Climate Considerations

The Gippsland region of Victoria has quite a temperate climate year-round, and rarely dips below 0oC in the winter.

The summer months (November to March) are the warmest and most popular for wedding ceremonies and receptions, but the coastal regions of Gippsland can present with cooler temperatures, especially in the evenings.

Of course, the temperature and climate will vary slightly, depending on whether you are looking at a coastal, eastern, northern, southern, or western location in Gippsland, but typically the summer months are ideal.

The most rainfall occurs in winter and spring months, but we suggest looking for wedding venues that offer backup locations for outdoor weddings in case it rains on your wedding day.
