With a variety of options for downsizing or upscaling your event and for accessing on site help, this region also caters to a variety of budgets from all inclusive to DIY.

This coastal paradise stretches right between Sydney and Canberra, so if you have a lot of out of town guests be sure to pay close attention to which venues offer accommodation options.

More on South Coast Weddings

The South Coast of Australia, which extends from New South Wales and touches the coastline of the Australian Capital Territory, is well known for its beautiful national parks, including Eurobodalla National Park and Jervis Bay National Park.

Of course, the region is also known for the gorgeous coastal views of the Pacific Ocean and escarpments.

The beaches are somewhat rocky, and there is a lot of farmland in the area, making the region ideal for waterfront and rustic / country style wedding ceremonies and venues.

Popular South Coast Wedding Venues & Prices

Of course, because the South Coast stretches between larger cities such as Sydney and Canberra, and also envelopes smaller coastal towns, the cost of wedding venues in the South Coast region will vary greatly.

For example, a wedding in the Wollongong region will cost about $15,000 on average, and a Sydney wedding can be variable and as affordable as $1,000 (venue hire fee).

Many of the South Coast wedding ceremony and reception venues will be of the beach or waterfront types, but there are also many estates, manors, hotels, gardens, mountain, rustic, bush, and golf-club type venues as well.

Many of these weddings will suit the laid-back and bohemian couple, but there are of course more luxurious venues as well for those looking for something a little classier.

Travel & Hotel Accommodations

There are many airports available in and near the South Coast region, including smaller airports such as the Illawara Regional Airport, the Jervis  Bay Airport, Moruya Aiport, and the Merimbula Airport.

However, we suggest telling your guests who are flying in, such as those who are coming in from out-of-state or internationally, to fly into the major hubs in the area, such as the Sydney Airport and the Canberra Airport.

It takes approximately 7 – 8 hours to drive from the north end of the coast to the south end, but there are of course connecting flights from the larger airports to the smaller.

There are a variety of hotels and Airbnb’s available in the South Coast region, ranging from $50 – $300 per night.

Typically, the closer one gets to a larger city (i.e. Canberra, Sydney), the more expensive the hotel, but there are affordable options in these areas as well.

Airbnb’s throughout this region range from approximately $70 – $400+ per night, so there are options available for you and all your guests, and their budgets.

Weather and Climate Considerations

The South Coast of Australia (New South Wales, Australian Capital Territory) is a fairly warm region, so it is ideal for summer and spring weddings, but doesn’t get too cold in the winter either, with a low temperature of about 17oC in the winter months.

The warmest summer months, November to March, will experience a high of 30oC.

Precipitation occurs throughout the year, with some heavy storms occurring usually in the months of June to September.

During these months, it is especially important to inquire and ensure that your wedding ceremony and reception venues have a plan B in case of inclement weather situations.
